Welcome to our Web site for Barry Town United AFC Pan Disability team, we have been running for over 15 years and was formally known as the Vale Reds. For those of you who have not been to the site before we are the only pan disability club based in the Vale of Glamorgan. Pan disability means that team members that have differing impairments but play together regardless of their limitations in play.
All of the members of the Football Club have different disabilities and often more than one disability. Our members come from very diverse backgrounds. Most of our players find a release and equality through participating in football.
At present the Club has a management team of 8 members, all of whom are volunteers The team having 8 coaches who help the coaches at training sessions.
One of the aims of the Club is participation and setting up player pathways for individuals to progress and retain their interest in the game be it as a player, coach, volunteer or supporter. Another aim is to develop confidence, teamwork, social skills, and increased health and wellbeing.
At present our members attend at Jenner Park Stadium training on a Tuesday night between 6 pm and 8 pm. The first 60 to 90 minutes is spent participating in training sessions and there after the members take part in round robin style games. Each week a member is nominated as captain to give the member confidence and social skills. It is important for them to communicate with the other members and organise the team to their best ability. We encourage them to organise where each member of the team will play and attend all sessions in their training kit.
With the club now affiliated with Barry Town United AFC it will allow the teams to expand and the Club is looking to achieve in the next year is to set up an under 12 team of both sexes. This could be a girls’ team and a boys’ team or a mixed team. We realise that to keep the Club needs to encourage younger players to join to keep the age groups going.
We are always looking out for new players especially under 16 and also team sponsorship to help take players to festivals all over south Wales and further afield. We are a club that is part of the the South Wales Pan Disability football league and work closely with the Welsh football trust and South Wales FA and are part of the insport programme.
