The Werq The World Series features the talent from the esteemed drag world tour, Werq The World, produced by Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, Steven Sims, & World of Wonder Productions and directed by Jasper Rischen.
The specific tour featured in Season 1 is part of the European Leg and features the legendary & talented queens Detox, Valentina, Shangela, Violet Chachki, Sharon Needles, Aquaria, Latrice Royale, Kennedy Davenport, Kim Chi, and Alyssa Edwards.
Following it’s debut a month prior, it was announced on July 11, 2019 that a second season will be filmed and distributed on WOW Presents Plus. This time the focus cast will be Kameron Michaels, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, Naomi Smalls, Plastique Tiara, current reigning Drag Super Star Yvie Oddly, and recent inductee into the Drag Race Hall of Fame, Monét X Change. The second season will also include Season 1 cast members Aquaria and Kim Chi.The season is set to debut this coming winter.

It’d be an understatement to say that I love RuPaul’s Drag Race. Between social media, a constant stream of old episodes, and attending DragCon LA last week, my entire life feels touched by lipstick and bumped by some Boobs For Queens knockers. I’m spilling my Drag Race bona fides because even though I live in this world of wonder, I don’t subscribe to WOW Presents Plus. I know, I know–but TBH I suspect that’s the deal with a lot of Drag Race fans. I have enough drag content via Instagram and the seasons I’ve dropped dollars for that a drag-centric streaming service from the Drag Race production company never felt essential.

The 10-part docu-series offers a never-before-seen look behind the scenes of the Werq The World tour, a traveling stage extravaganza co-produced Voss Events, VH1, and World of Wonder that brings a who’s who of Drag Race stars to cities all across the globe. Each episode focuses on one of ten queens (Shangela, Sharon Needles, Latrice Royale, Detox, Alyssa Edwards, Violet Chachki, Kennedy Davenport, Kim Chi, Valentina, and Aquaria), documenting their day-to-day as they crisscross Europe, hopping from airplanes to the stage and every rehearsal space, hotel room, and blessed KFC in-between.
But Werq the World isn’t just a straightforward concert doc, a la Netflix’s instantly iconic Homecoming. In fact, you don’t actually see much of the Werq the World show at all–but you don’t miss it. Instead, Werq the World focuses not only on what goes into being a drag queen (the hours of makeup, the emotional exhaustion that follows 150 one-on-ones with strangers who live for you), but on the relationships these queens have forged through countless hours on the road. Even though an episode is named after one queen, the rest of the cast gets ample screentime. The queens’ personalities shine like diamonds–albeit diamonds in sweatpants and sleep masks.
