Fixture & Ladder FAQs

1. How do the SBA work out the fixtures?
Teams are allocated to the fixture randomly. This is to try to ensure that all teams get a share of the earlier and later game times and that all teams play as many games as possible.
2. We played a team in Round 4, why are we playing them again in Round 5?
Teams played during the first 4 rounds, or the ‘Grading Period’, do NOT count towards the season proper. Thus, you may have played a team in Round 4 and play them again in Round 5. Again, allocation is all random.
3. We had a BYE during Grading, why do we have one again in Round 5 or 6?
As with who you play during Grading, BYES are the same; they do not count towards season proper. They are also allocated randomly. It is unfortunate when you have two so close together, but you usually won’t have one again for a while, if at all.
4. Can I request a change to the fixture?
No, the SBA will not accept requests to change fixtures for ANY reason; with 100s of games being played weekly, they do not have the capacity to accommodate the many requests they would get each week.
5. What do we do if we cannot field a full team on a certain date?
You have 3 options:
a) You can play a game with a minimum of 4 players; so, if you have 4 players available, still play and ensure you use all your time outs to give the players a break.
b) Look for a fill-in or emergency player to bring your team up to the minimum 4 players needed to take to the court. Rules around how this works are available on our website or in the documents section of TeamApp for all team managers.
c) If you can still not field a team, you will need to forfeit the game. The Team Manager will need to notify the SBA in writing as soon as they know or if it is the day of or a weekend, they will need to phone.
6. We have more BYES than other teams, will this affect our standing on the ladder?
No, ladder standings is based on ‘PTS AVG’. This means that the points the team accrues for each game they play is divided by the total number of games played to date. e.g. If you have accrued 13 points so far and played 4 games, your PTS AVG would be 3.25 and this is what will determine your place on the ladder. This ensures a fair competition for all.
