Building Smart & Resilient Cricketers: Kandy U23 Girls Embrace Game Awareness and Teamwork

3 Apr by Coach Education Unit

The Player Education Program for the Kandy District Under-23 Girls Team was successfully conducted on the 3rd of March 2026 at St. Anthony’s Convent Ground, bringing together a group of talented young cricketers eager to elevate their understanding of the game beyond skills and techniques.

The session focused on two critical aspects of modern cricket — game awareness and teamwork, both essential for performing consistently at competitive levels. Players were encouraged to think deeper about match situations, understand their individual roles within the team, and recognize how collective effort drives success.

A key highlight of the program was addressing the challenges faced during matches. Through interactive discussions and real-game scenarios, players explored how different situations unfold and how decision-making plays a vital role in influencing outcomes. They were guided on how to read the game, anticipate situations, and respond with clarity and confidence.

Another important area covered was handling pressure situations. Players were introduced to simple yet effective strategies to stay composed under pressure, maintain focus, and make better decisions when the game is on the line. Emphasis was placed on controlling emotions, trusting preparation, and supporting teammates during crucial moments.

The program also reinforced the importance of teamwork, highlighting how communication, trust, and understanding among players contribute to a strong team culture. The players actively engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences and learning from one another, which made the session both insightful and impactful.

Overall, the session was a valuable step in shaping more aware, confident, and team-oriented cricketers, preparing them not just to play the game, but to understand it and perform effectively under pressure.
