2 Apr by Coach Education Unit

The WP North Outer (Gampaha) School Coaches Education Program focusing on wicketkeeping was successfully conducted on 02nd April 2026 at St. Anthony’s College, Wattala. The session brought together school coaches with the aim of enhancing their knowledge and practical understanding of modern wicketkeeping techniques.

The program emphasized the importance of mastering the basics of wicketkeeping, providing coaches with a strong technical foundation to develop young players. Key areas such as stance and balance were highlighted, ensuring that coaches understand the importance of body positioning in maintaining consistency behind the stumps.

Special attention was given to footwork and glove work, two critical components that directly influence a wicketkeeper’s efficiency and effectiveness. Coaches were guided on how to train players to move quickly, maintain rhythm, and execute clean takes under different match situations.

Beyond technical skills, the session also addressed the role of a wicketkeeper as a leader on the field. Discussions on communication and leadership helped coaches recognize the importance of the keeper as a key decision-maker and motivator within the team.

Overall, the program served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, equipping school coaches in the Gampaha region with practical tools and modern approaches to develop skilled and confident wicketkeepers.
