Elevating Fielding Standards: Batticaloa Coaches Advance on Day Two

31 Mar by Coach Education Unit

The second day of the Batticaloa District Introduction to Cricket Coaching Course was successfully completed on the 31st of March 2026 at Webber Stadium, marking another productive step in developing coaching knowledge and practical skills within the region.

The day’s sessions focused on three key areas—fielding, wicket keeping, and evaluation—all of which play a crucial role in shaping well-rounded cricketers. Coaches were taken through the technical and tactical aspects of fielding, emphasizing proper techniques in catching, ground fielding, and throwing accuracy. The importance of energy, positioning, and consistency in the field was strongly highlighted.

The wicket-keeping component provided valuable insights into modern keeping standards, including stance, movement, glove work, and communication. Coaches gained a deeper understanding of how to train young players to become reliable and effective behind the stumps.

A significant part of the day was dedicated to evaluation, where participants learned how to assess player performance, identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide constructive feedback. This aspect aimed to enhance the coaches’ ability to support player development through structured observation and analysis.

Overall, day two successfully combined theory and practical learning, equipping coaches with essential tools to improve standards in their respective teams and contribute to the growth of cricket in the Batticaloa district.
