On the 25th of March 2026, an insightful and engaging Wicket Keeping Fundamentals program was successfully conducted at Science College under the guidance of Lanka De Silva. The session was designed to strengthen the core skills and understanding required to excel as a modern-day wicketkeeper.
The program began by highlighting the crucial role of a wicketkeeper as the backbone of the team. Participants were introduced to the responsibilities that go beyond catching and stumping, including leadership, communication, and game awareness. Emphasis was placed on modern wicketkeeping requirements, helping players understand how the role has evolved with the fast-paced nature of today’s game.
A key focus of the session was on mastering the basic techniques of stance and positioning. Players were guided through proper body alignment, balance, and movement to ensure consistency and efficiency behind the stumps. The session also encouraged players to identify common errors in their technique, followed by practical solutions to correct and improve their performance.
To reinforce learning, specific training drills were introduced, allowing players to apply their knowledge in real-time scenarios. These drills were tailored to develop reflexes, footwork, and overall confidence as a wicketkeeper.
Overall, the program provided a valuable platform for aspiring wicketkeepers to build a strong technical foundation while adapting to the demands of modern cricket.
