An IT Workshop and Coach Education Programme was successfully conducted for the Uva Province coaching staff at the Badulla District Cricket Ground, with the aim of strengthening both technical and educational competencies of coaches.
The morning session focused on developing essential IT skills, with particular emphasis on basic Excel applications relevant to coaching and administration. Coaches were guided on how to organize data efficiently and use Excel for preparing match reports, enabling them to record, analyze, and communicate match information in a more structured and professional manner.
The afternoon session transitioned into a comprehensive Coach Education Programme, centered on improving the quality of classroom-based coaching sessions. Coaches were introduced to effective methods for conducting engaging classroom sessions, highlighting the importance of clear communication, structured delivery, and athlete-centered learning.
Key areas included engagement techniques, activity planning, and the development of practical teaching strategies. Special attention was given to teaching skills and methods grounded in educational psychology, helping coaches understand how players learn, retain information, and stay motivated.
Overall, the programme provided Uva Province coaches with valuable tools to enhance both their off-field organization and on-field teaching effectiveness. By integrating technology with modern educational approaches, the workshop contributed to the continued professional development of coaches and the improvement of coaching standards across the province.
