Knowing the Player Within: U15 National Cricketers Embrace Self-Awareness and Purpose
9 Feb by Coach Education Unit
On 9th February 2026, Sri Lanka’s Under-15 National Cricket Players participated in a focused Self-Awareness and Goal-Setting Program held at the High Performance Centre (HPC) Conference Hall. The session was designed to help young athletes understand that long-term success in cricket begins with knowing oneself, both as a player and as an individual.
The program guided players through the process of self-discovery, encouraging them to reflect on their personal traits, attitudes, and behaviours that influence performance on the field. By gaining a clearer understanding of themselves, players were able to recognise how mindset and self-belief contribute to consistency and decision-making in competitive situations.
A major focus of the session was identifying individual strengths and weaknesses. Players learned how to objectively assess their abilities and understand where they can gain a competitive edge. Equally important was recognising areas that require development, with emphasis placed on using structured goals rather than pressure or comparison to drive improvement.
The session also explored role preference within a team environment, helping players understand where they best fit and how they can contribute effectively to team success. This understanding reinforced the importance of responsibility, adaptability, and clarity of role at the national level.
Overall, the program highlighted that self-awareness is a foundation for growth. By learning to set clear goals, understand their roles, and build on their strengths, Sri Lanka’s U15 players took an important step toward becoming confident, disciplined, and purpose-driven cricketers for the future.
