18 Dec by Shaun Perera
The Nuwara Eliya District Level 0 Coaching Course commenced on 18th December 2025 with an energetic and well-organized Day One session held at Norwood. The program marked an important step in developing grassroots cricket coaching standards within the district.
The first day focused on three key technical areas of the game: batting, spin bowling, and wicket keeping. Participants were guided through fundamental principles, practical drills, and modern coaching techniques aimed at building a strong foundation for future player development.
During the batting session, emphasis was placed on grip, stance, balance, and shot selection, along with methods to correct common errors at beginner level. The spin bowling module covered basic mechanics, grip variations, accuracy, and how to introduce spin bowling effectively to young cricketers. The wicket keeping session highlighted essential skills such as footwork, catching techniques, glove positioning, and maintaining concentration behind the stumps.
The course provided an interactive learning environment, encouraging participants to engage in discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Coaches and trainees showed strong enthusiasm, reflecting the growing interest in structured cricket education across the Nuwara Eliya District.
The successful completion of Day One set a positive tone for the remainder of the Level 0 Coaching Course, which aims to equip aspiring coaches with the knowledge and confidence to nurture future cricket talent at school and club level.
