Building Better Cricketers in Vavuniya: Coach Education Programme Focuses on Season Review and Player Development

A coach education programme for school and academy coaches from Mannar, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Kilinochchi was conducted from 9.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. at the NPCA Office and MSD Academy in Vavuniya. The programme aimed to support coaches through structured discussions and learning activities focused on reviewing the 2025 season and understanding long-term cricket player development.

The session provided an opportunity for coaches to reflect on key outcomes of the 2025 season, identify challenges faced at different levels, and share practical experiences from their coaching environments. Emphasis was placed on how players progress through various stages of development, highlighting the importance of age-appropriate training, skill acquisition, and consistent coaching methods.

The programme combined theory-based discussions with practical insights, encouraging coaches to apply development-focused strategies within their respective schools and academies. Overall, the session strengthened coaches’ understanding of player pathways and reinforced the role of structured planning in nurturing future cricketers.
