Campers in the Car Park

21 Mar by Jory

I am aware that there have been concerns raised in relation to the number of campers using the Long Point Road Carpark adjacent to the club. As a committee we have been working with the Hobart City Council in reporting the concerns and as such the council did recently issue 12 infringement notices. The concern however does still remain.

This week I have written to Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds and Inspector John Toohey of Tasmania Police (Hobart District) highlighting our concerns and making the following requests of Hobart City Council:
- Increase signage in the area to highlight that camping is a breach of the by laws.
- Make signage clear so that outlines campervans are also in breach as current signage depicts a tent.
- Increase active compliance of the area and issuing of infringement notices where available.
- Provide Sandy Bay Sailing Club with a contact person within the council that we can contact in relation to this concern ongoing.
- Work with Tasmania Police where possible to increase their presence in the area.

I would ask members to continue to communicate with the committee if they see things that are concerning and we will continue to work with the Council and Tasmania Police heading forward.

Regards, Jory
