Rugby Family.
The start of every season brings exactly the same anxieties and concerns. Will we have a team? Having enough players for 2 teams? Will our coach return?
In the 8years I’ve been associated with Caboolture Rugby, this is the 1st year we’ve had record numbers of returning coaches, committed and dedicated to our players. They are "ever ready" for season 2020, already investing in themselves, with the majority taking up the BJRU’s offer to upskill in an intensive training weekend. Quite simply, they are making my job easy.
Coaches, managers, player officials etc are volunteers. THESE PEOPLE ARE THE VERY LIFE BLOOD OF OUR CLUB. They are very much considered the immediate family, their “opinions” matter most. Some have dedicated many years’ service to Caboolture Rugby.
Like any family, we have fights. But guess what, families kiss and make up. We are no different.
Before you pickup the phone or approach me regarding an issue, please take a second and think. Do I have an ‘opinion or a criticism’?
Most situations between members can be resolved on the spot.
Have you approached the person you are having conflict with?
Is there a way between the 2 people to resolve the issue?
Can both parties come to me with solutions rather than problems?
Delivering solutions rather than problems goes a long way to building foundations for the Caboolture Rugby Family.
2 of our very active volunteers within the family have an issue. We listen to both “opinions” & work to a solution.
If somebody comes to me with an issue, the first thing I sum up is their position within our family. Is this person giving any contributions to the club? Do they hold the same values as the club? NO. Then their “opinion” on a matter becomes a “criticism”. Until you step up, put yourselves in the coach or managers shoes & give it a go, my office door is closed.
It’s easy to be a “critic”, but it does not have to be hard to hold a valued “opinion”.
Opinions matter. Criticism’s don’t.
Remember our very wise old Club President?
“Ask NOT what your Rugby Club can do for you.
But what YOU can do for your Rugby club”.
