HSA Employeer Seed update
24 Jan 2020 by Krista Anderson
The Benefits team provided an update this morning on the HSA (Health Savings Account) employer seed:
The first HSA employer seed money for the year is in process and we are working diligently on completing this with our third-party vendors to make the employer contribution to employee Health Savings Accounts. We wanted to provide you with an update on our progress as we are beginning to receive employee questions, as I am sure you are as well. We anticipate completion of this by the end of next week at the latest and will keep you informed as we progress. We communicate during annual enrollment that the contribution will be made in mid-January or as soon as administratively possible.
As a reminder the second seed posts in July. New hires throughout the year and mid-year coverage level changes (e.g. change from employee only coverage to you + spouse coverage), will receive a prorated HSA contribution within 90 days of the new coverage effective date. This allows for the 30-day enrollment window for the employee to enroll, 60 days for the dependent verification and the processing of the subsequent files.
2020 Health Savings Accounts and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Cards
For employees that were enrolled in either an HSA or FSA for 2019 and continue to be enrolled in the same plan for 2020, their existing card is still fully functional, and they will not be receiving a new card. Employees newly enrolling into an HSA or FSA for 2020 will receive a new card but this has been delayed due to process issues with the eligibility file to Health Equity. These issues are being resolved and we expect employees to receive these cards in the next 7 to 10 days.
