It was 4 wins from 4 across the weekend for the club, with the 1s going big at Edenfield, the 2s taking a dramatic home win, and the 3s returning to the league summit after two victories.
The 1st XI were in away action in an important Championship game at Edenfield, and piled on the runs after electing to bat first. Sub professional Mohammed Jamal took full control of the innings, eclipsing his 140 earlier in the season, with 172 scored from 142 balls (including 17 fours and 7 sixes – including some huge hits). He was well supported at the other end by Jon Wiggans (68) and Dom Morris (56*) – a long 50 overs in the field for the hosts ended with Bury on 335-3. Wickets for Mohammed Usman (4-54) and Ash Gorsi (3-36) meant it was a comfortably defence for Bury, who picked up their 6th league win of the season, by 155 runs.
The 2nd XI were asked to bowl first at Radcliffe Road by Brooksbottom, and the opening bowling pair of Mohammed Majid and Patrick Potts got Bury off to a disciplined and successful start. After the opening stand of 31, Brox were 4 down just one run later. Mohammad Aon bowled a tight 10 over spell during the middle overs (3-17) as the visitors looked to rebuild, but only until Majid (3-38) and Potts (3-22) returned to the attack to finish off the first innings – Brooksbottom all out for 118 in the final over. In reply, Bury’s batsmen were well tested by a sharp spell of bowling from overseas amateur Shailesh Bhondekar (5-48), but 6 scores in the 14-16 run range kept the scoreboard heading towards the target. However, a flurry of wickets from 92-4 to 111-9 left Bury facing another defeat. It was down to the U15 pairing of Muhammed Aon and Adam Smith to score the remaining 8 required for the last wicket, and some excellent composure saw the duo pull off a dramatic finish – Aon putting away Bhondekar for a boundary when scores were level.
The 3rd XI were in action on both Thursday and Sunday, and recorded two victories to return to the top of the Sunday Division 2N table. On Thursday, they made light work of Deane & Derby in an away T20 – the hosts bowled out after 16.2 overs for 63, with wickets for Arshad Raza (4-14), Josh Bowen (3-18) and Scott Worswick (2-9). On Sunday, another strong bowling performance saw Edgworth 4s bowled out for 135 – this time the wickets shared between Worswick (3-23), Muhammad Aon (3-32), Craig Aspey (2-19) and Raza (2-28). However, the home side had a great start to the second innings, with Bury struggling at 0-2 and 19-3. A rain delay came with the score at 35-3 in the 14th over. A revised score of 119 from 32 overs were set, and a quickfire partnership of 65 from Shreyas Malhotra (56) and James Weston (27) turned the game on it’s head to put Bury firmly in the driving seat. Freddie Nicol eventually hit the winning runs – overs never an issue with 5 to spare, in a 3 wicket victory.
