Water Polo Updates and Preparation

12 Apr 2021 by Brandon Huff

Good Morning Student-Athletes and Families,

We are officially one week away from the start of high school water polo. Over the past few months, we have been working constantly to provide a high school water polo season and now finally I have the honor to confirm we will be having a season. As of today, we currently have practices Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 2:30-5:30pm at Memorial. We are still confirming pool time at one other location for practices Tuesday and Thursday but needs to be approved by CIF and City Conference.

For our practices at Memorial, it will closely resemble the practice schedule currently in place at Memorial so we can accommodate both our boys’ and girls’ programs. What will be different is that we will provide both a varsity and junior varsity team for both boys and girls which will add many more student-athletes in the water. With this in mind we must continue to respect the pool protocols in place at all city pool locations and the capacity there are able to host in and off the pool deck. If there are significant restrictions in regard to pool capacity, this may shift practice times significantly.

Lastly, this season is going to be very compact and a lot of moving pieces will be circulating constantly. There will need to be a lot of communication for all aspects including practice changes, competition schedule, and various other aspects relative to the water polo season. This Wednesday we plan to have a Zoom Meeting to discuss more details and answer questions you may have. Thank you all for your patience and I cannot emphasize enough my excitement to begin the water polo season.
