The Academy of Classical Christian Studies is pleased to announce the selection of MaryAshton Floyd as the high school Head Volleyball Coach. MaryAshton, affectionately known as Coach Mash, brings a strong background in volleyball and a passion for the hearts of young women. MaryAshton comes to The ACADEMY most recently from Crossings Church where she was the Women’s Director of the Young Adult and College Ministry since 2018. She has also worked with Young Life and Kanakuk during college and her professional life.
MaryAshton was a key member of the Wichita State Shockers volleyball teams that won two Missouri Valley conference championships and tournament championships in 2013 and 2015. The Shockers won 20+ matches each year on their way to 4 straight NCAA Tournament appearances. During her freshman year Floyd helped WSU advance to its first NCAA Sweet Sixteen in school history.
The Outside Hitter earned first team all-conference honors as a junior in 2014, averaging a team-leading 2.8 kills per set. In a season that also saw her named to the Delta Zeta Classic all-tournament team, Floyd hit .218 with 269 kills, four assists, 26 service aces, 138 digs, two solo blocks and 24 block assists.
Floyd’s coaching experience as a Head or Assistant Coach includes Shockwave (Wichita) 16’s, Club Bear (Springfield) 17’s, and Trinity Christian Academy (Wichita). She has also run camps and clinics at Wichita State and spearheaded the summer volleyball programs at Kanakuk K2.
Mash graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas where she lettered four years in volleyball and one year in swimming. She was a 3-time first team all-district selection (2009-2011), team captain (2010-2011), and member of the Bi-District Champion team that advanced to the 2nd round of the Texas 5A Playoffs her senior year. Academically, she was named a Radio Shack Scholar, UIL Scholar, and Academic All-District her senior year.
“We are so excited to welcome MaryAshton to The ACADEMY! Besides her volleyball experience and leadership background, everyone that encounters MaryAshton can feel her genuine love for people and her heart for God” said Griffins AD Rob McKinzie. “She will pour into our student-athletes and help mentor them athletically, academically, and spiritually.”
Coach Mash will be releasing Summer Volleyball Camp dates and times for rising 3rd through 12th graders later this week and is excited to start working with our teams.
