Wakefield Welfare

We played Wakefield Wellfare at Fleet Lane raising money for Breast Cancer Now.
The Wakefield lads have improved tenfold since the first time we’ve played them which made this game a really tight game throughout. Wakefield had the better of the opportunities in the 1st half despite us hitting the post twice and it was that pressure that eventually paid off as a deflected shot from outside the box found its way into the bottom corner giving them the 1-0 lead at half time.
2nd half began and we managed to put on a little more pressure on their goal despite Wakefield having the majority of the possession. This pressure eventually won us a penalty to which Dec stood up and took to put us level, 1-1.
It’s was a feisty 2nd half after that, definitely felt more like a cup final match than a friendly with 2 yellows being issued, 1 for each team, and also a red card to one of our former player Brad who now played for Wellfare (unlucky to get a red in my opinion). With the game really tight it took one last chance to win the game and it fell to Wakefield Wellfare from a quick counter attack and a clever ball passed back from the byline to find their CM in the middle of the box to slot the ball home.
Final score 2-1 to Wakefield Wellfare. Really good game and also showed how much Wellfare have improved since our first game against each other a year ago.
