Match Report - Craven for Change
9 Jul 2023 by Adam Birkinshaw
We took on Craven for Change on Saturday at home at Fleet Lane.
Craven were a well organised and energetic team, especially on the attack, and it was craven that took the lead from an early corner! A good ball into the box found one of their players to head home in the bottom far corner of the net, 1-0.
A few more close attacks from both sides and then it was Mush Utd to pull one back. A cross field ball found myself just around the edge of the box who took the ball down turned and hit the ball in the volley into the far corner of the net, 1-1. It’s rare I bag one, so I was gutted we didn’t have one of those VEO cameras there to capture that…..as I won’t do that again!
Not long until the end of the 1st half and a challenge from our centre mid, just out from the edge of the box, was deemed a free-kick. A quick thinking free kick was taken by Craven with a simple pass through to their attacker making a quick run to into the box for a simple tap in. 2-1 to Craven.
The second half was similar to the first, craven mainly dominating but with only a goal in it we were still pushing for that equaliser. It was craven however that extended their lead. Craven picked up a loose header, passed the ball to their midfielder just out from the edge of the box who hit a low shot to the far corner that slipped through our keepers arms into the back of the net for 3-1.
Not long left on the clock but we managed to pull one back, a through ball found one of our midfielders making an attacking run to go through on goal and slot the ball home. 3-2 now, but with not long left on the clock that’s how it ended.
Great game played in the right way, craven we’re a top set of lads and joined us after in the pub.
Most importantly, we managed to raise a nice amount for Wakefield Hospice!
Danny Batley (GK) was voted as man of the match for a quality performance keeping us in it.
