Battling Fat Lads
22 May 2023 by Adam Birkinshaw
Our second game of the year took us to Huddersfield, so a nice Yorkshire derby match with Battling Fat Lads!
To be completely honest the game could have gone either way, it was a really closely fought match in the red hot sun (as a ginger playing centre mid, my factor 50 was generously applied in preparation).
We managed to get the lead in the first half, a corner directed to the near post was well finished with a header from our man up from Gary Driscoll, who made it 2 in 2 for him now after joining us.
Battling came at us straight away and were unlucky not to equalise but for a great double save from our keeper with the second shortly straight at his face. 1-0 it stayed for half time.
During the second we managed to break away with a well worked goal through some quick one two passing, with the ball finding it way through to Craig Naylor who smashed a shot from close range at the Battling keeper who got a good hand to it but seemed to hit their own defender to find the back of the net (theirs dispute if this was an own goal or if the ball was already over the line from Craig 😄).
2-0 up, but still not safe. Battling pulled a goal back through a we’ll worked move on our left side, with a nice clean cross on the floor across our box to find one of their players at the back post for a nice finish. 2-1 it was and Battling had another great chance, the ball broke through to put their man one on one with our keeper, he selflessly passed the ball to his left for his fellow team mate to tap the ball home to square it, unfortunately he was offside!
The game ended 2-1 to Mush Utd in the end but a really great competitive game played in the right way. With the funds raised going to Westfield Manor Nursing Home.
