The High-Performance Centre hosted a Basic Fitness Programme for Southern and Uva Provincial coaches, conducted by Chandula Liyanage, the Strength & Conditioning Trainer of the Sri Lanka U19 squad. This session was designed to enhance coaches’ understanding of fundamental fitness principles essential for modern player development.

The program covered key areas such as warm-up protocols, agility training, mobility and flexibility routines, and essential conditioning methods used in youth and high-performance environments. Coaches were also introduced to injury-prevention strategies and proper load-management practices to ensure safe and effective training for athletes at school, district, and provincial levels.

Chandula’s practical demonstrations and simplified explanations enabled coaches to confidently apply scientifically backed fitness methods within their respective training environments. The initiative further supports the Coach Education Unit’s commitment to equipping provincial coaches with the technical and physical preparation knowledge required for developing well-rounded cricketers.

This program also marks a stepping stone toward establishing a stronger foundation in Strength & Conditioning across all provinces, reinforcing the long-term athlete development pathway within Sri Lanka Cricket.
