14 Nov by Coach Education Unit

The Coach Education Unit concluded Day 2 of the Kandy District Introduction to Cricket Coaching Course, bringing the two-day programme to a productive and impactful finish. Day 2, led by Coach Educator K. Karthigeson, focused on enhancing participants’ technical coaching abilities through practical sessions in Fast Bowling, Fielding, and a final Coaching Assignment.

Fast Bowling

The fast-bowling component covered the essential mechanics required to coach young pace bowlers effectively. Participants explored run-up rhythm, loading positions, arm path, release angle, seam presentation, and follow-through. The session emphasised safe training methods, corrective coaching, and designing drills that promote rhythm, control, and injury prevention for developing fast bowlers.

Fielding

The fielding module delivered high-energy, technique-driven training, covering catching fundamentals, ground fielding, lateral movement, quick reaction drills, and accurate throwing mechanics. Coaches learned how to maintain intensity while ensuring players develop proper technique and game-readiness.

Assignment Session

As the final step of the programme, participants completed a structured coaching assignment where they were evaluated on their ability to plan, deliver, and reflect on a coaching session. The assignment assessed key coaching competencies, including communication, technical knowledge, organization, safety awareness, and player engagement.

Conclusion

The two-day course provided valuable insight into coaching methodology, technical skill development, and practical on-field instruction. Participants left with enhanced confidence and a stronger understanding of how to develop young cricketers within the Kandy District.

The Coach Education Unit commends all participants for their dedication and looks forward to their continued contribution to grassroots cricket development in Sri Lanka.
